Colin is a community with over 25,000 residents, over a third of which are under 15 years old
Statistics show
- Given the growing population, it is clear that current health and social services provision will not meet the needs of the community. There is a clear lack of play, recreation, and sporting facilities - only 1 public playground for 7,000 children.
- While the area has excellent schools, 43% of our three and four year old children have speech and language difficulties and less than 20% of school leavers enter further education.
- There are high levels of antisocial behaviour including car crime and the amount of litter being disgarded in our streets.
- There are increasing levels of drug, alcohol, and solvent abuse.
- There are high levels of 3rd generation unemployment - 42% of the current unemployed in the Lisburn City Council area live in Colin Neighbourhood
