V olunteers from Colin at CNP's Volunteer BBQ

Colin Neighborhood  Partnership recently held its annual Awards Cere mo ny and BBQ to celebrate the work of  of  volunteers from the Colin area.

Gemma Burns, Volunteer Development Worker at CNP , organised the event at CNP’s premises at Cloona House in Poleglass. Speaking of the event she said,

“The Colin Volunteer BBQ is a great way of thanking those people who voluntarily give their time for the good of the community. We wanted to let volunteers know that each and every one of them is highly valued for the contribution they make. So many events and projects in Colin could not operate without volunteers who provide a vital service for their area. This Volunteer BBQ and Awards Ceremony recognises their contribution with a day of fun and celebration. The weather may not have been ideal but it didn’t dampen the celebration!”

The ceremony was attended by Jennifer McCann MLA . Speaking at the event Ms McCann said,

“I am delighted to be asked to speak and present tokens of appreciation at this year’s Colin Volunteer BBQ and Awards Ceremony. Volunteering is a very special part of community life and very often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.  Many volunteers give up their time and put great effort into improving the quality of life for many members of the community.  They are to be congratulated for their efforts and I hope these awards will ensure they are thanked for their service and show everyone’s appreciation

At the event one local volunteer, Annmarie Curley from Poleglass , received a special gif of appreciation for ten years of voluntary service in the Colin community. Annmarie volunteers with the Good Morning Colin Project, a telephone support service for older people in Colin. The organisation relies heavily on the commitment and dedication of a team of voluntary workers like Annmarie. Speaking of her volunteering experience she said,

“I find it really rewarding volunteering at Good Morning Colin and have enjoyed the past ten years. I feel that I’m making a big difference in people’s lives. The people I phone each morning feel like family to me now. Its worthwhile to know that the older people in this community feel safer because of the service we provide. I am extremely proud to be a Colin volunteer and I would recommend volunteering to anyone.”
