Colin Volunteer BBQ Brings the Heat and the Heart from our Local Volunteers!

Recently, we were up at the Colin Community Allotments to host our annual Colin Volunteer BBQ, an event focused on celebrating the spectacular work the volunteers do for our community! This is a special event we host every year where we invite local volunteers and cook up fresh burgers and hot dogs to share out in the sun.

While we were going to host the event earlier in the month, we moved it forward just to make sure we were getting the most out of the sizzling, summer sun.

We had loads of our local volunteers drop down to attend, socialising and sharing the craic in the sun. The roars of laughter filled the allotments while the sun beat down. The rows of tables were all filled with volunteers from all sorts of different types of work and backgrounds mingling and having a ball.

The laughter was later swapped for singing as the choruses of Colin Men's Shed's Ukulele Band came out to give a sun-filled serenade to the volunteers. As the band belted out classics like "Dirty Old Town" and "Knock Three Times", the audience couldn't help but sing along.

After their passionate performance, it was time to give out the awards to the volunteers to say thank you for their dedication to the community. Everyone went to collect their framed certificate and goodies, and some even gave a speech, detailing what they love about their work, why they think it matters or how people can join in.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and to all the volunteers in the area! We recognise all the work that you do for the area, and we're so thankful to have you as part of the Colin community.

Special thanks to the Department for Communities and Belfast City Council for supporting this event, and also to Volunteer Now for supporting with resources and merchandise for the attendees.
